General Information:

Welcome to the Workshop on Wireless and Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks! Based on the success of the preceding WMAN workshops of 2009 back to 2002, the workshop will also be organised for 2011. For the upcoming workshop, we are very happy to introduce WMAN 2011 for the third time being hosted in the context of the bi-annual ITG/GI conference on communication in distributed systems (German: ITG/GI - Fachtagung "Kommunikation in Verteilten Systemen").

Wireless and Mobile Ad-Hoc Networking covers a broad variety of applications, including areas like mesh net-working, wireless sensor networks, vehicular networks, personal area networks, some forms of body area net-works, and many more.

Recent years have shown that many challenges in Wireless and Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks require a holistic view and cross-layer approach to be solved. Therefore, the WMAN 2011 workshop aims at combining relevant work from the lower radio transmission layer all the way up to the application layer in a coherent manner.  Further-more, specific application scenarios, such as vehicle-to-vehicle communications or submarine communications are of high interest.

This workshop will cover the variety of research addressing dynamic, wireless networking that can be subsumed under the term Wireless and Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks and it will foster the exchange of researchers from different areas to discuss and exchange ideas and approaches.

Addressees of the workshop:

Goal of the WMAN workshop is to enable an effective interchange of results and ideas among researchers, users, and product developers on an international level - under the umbrella of research topics on wireless and mobile ad-hoc networks.

We encourage you to submit original papers describing research results or practical solutions, as well as ongoing work or challenging new research issues in the area of wireless and mobile ad-hoc networks.

Workshop location / dates:

The workshop WMAN as well as the KiVS conference will take place in the buildings of the University of Kiel, Germany. Further information on the location and how to get there can be found on the KiVS web page (undefinedplease click here - information in German language).

The workshop is planned to take place on Thursday March 10 in the afternoon (after the main KiVS conference closed) and probably continued on Friday March 11. For Thursday evening, an informal meeting of the participants is foreseen (e.g. for dinner).

Workshop Organisation (points of contact):

  • Matthias Frank (University of Bonn, Germany)
  • Frank Kargl (University of Twente, The Netherlands)
  • Burkhard Stiller (University of Zurich, Switzerland)
